Scholarship Applications

We are pleased you have decided to apply for a scholarship!  Please read the following information in its entirety to learn more about the scholarships, what is expected and important dates.

Non-Theological Applicants

Scholarships are awarded with preference to members of First United Methodist Church of Phoenix for post-secondary education. The applicant must be planning to attend an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school. Preference will be given to first year students, and after their needs are met, higher class level and graduate students will be considered, subject to the availability of funds and history of awards.

What are we looking for on non-Theological applications?

  • Minimum grade point of 2.0 based on a 4.0 scale
  • Active and consistent participation at First Church and/or other ministries
  • Active and consistent participation beyond the classroom with the community, post-secondary institution and/or work
  • Thorough, personal response so the selection committee gets to know you
  • Complete an accurate application

Theological Applicants

Theological Studies – The applicant must be a Certified Candidate for the ministry as defined in THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH BOOK OF DISCIPLINE. * All applicants must provide evidence from the Annual Conference of which they are currently a Certified Candidate. Scholarships are to be awarded for education related expenses only. All funds awarded to the Scholarship Recipient will be sent directly to the recipient’s designated school by the Business Administrator of First United Methodist Church.

1. Briefly describe how your sense of call to ministry has developed.

2. As a certified candidate, where are you in the process of meeting the requirements for the continuation or completion of your candidacy?

3. Looking ahead, to what kind of ministry do you feel drawn (local church, campus ministry, chaplaincy, or other specialized ministries?)

4. What is the name of the school you will be attending?

5. What dollar amount of support are you requesting and why?

The deadline to submit your responses via email is 4 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024.

 

Important Dates and Requirements

  • Applications will be accepted online beginning January 1, 2024.
  • Applications are to be submitted electronically only.
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Please submit a photo of yourself with your application.
  • Applicants will receive an electronic confirmation that the application has been received. If the confirmation is not received, contact the Business Administrator in the church office immediately.
  • Applicants are to forward the electronic confirmation that the application has been received to the Business Administrator in the church office at info@firstchurch.church.
  • Contact the Business Administrator if you are applying for the fifth (5) time.
  • For additional information or questions, please contact the church office.
  • The deadline for applications for the 2024-2025 academic year is 4 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024.
