Pastor Mike’s Corner

The past will always catch up to us, but that is a good thing. When we are confronted with things we’ve done in the past but have been able to keep them hidden, we are suddenly allowed to let go of the façade constructed to protect a false identity. This allows us to more authentically embrace who we really are, repent from those things we regret, and offer sincere reconciliation.

As we continue our series on “Discovering Our Identity” this week, we’ll reflect on the story of Joseph revealing himself to his brothers after he had become a powerful leader in Egypt. At that point, his brothers had to confront the lie they had told for years to their father and the rest of their family – Joseph wasn’t killed by an animal; they had sold him into slavery. Joseph’s revelation to his family was a powerful moment not just for him, but for his family as well.

Here is the question for this week’s sermon: When have you felt relief by being able to let go of a false narrative?
