Pastor David’s Corner

After thoughtful conversations and planning, I’m excited to share an important update regarding the roles of Jessica Morris and Sammi Burkhart. Effective immediately, Jessica will be serving as our Director of Next Generation Ministry.
In this role, Jessica will oversee and implement programming for infants through young adults, with the goal of helping them grow in their Christian faith. She will also focus on equipping and supporting families to lead well at home and on creating ministry opportunities that welcome and engage new families in our community. Her responsibilities will include leadership in Children’s Ministry, Middle and High School Youth Groups, Sunday School, and Young Adult Group Ministry. This position has been shaped by insights from past successes and areas of growth, and we’re excited about what lies ahead.
Additionally, Sammi Burkhart now serves as our Director of Church Marketing, Growth, and Communication. This position is key in amplifying both our internal and external voice. Sammi will lead efforts in marketing, website development, social media growth and engagement, and the coordination of all internal communications and publications, as well as outreach initiatives and church program development as we continue to grow and connect more deeply with our congregation and community. Sammi will continue to serve with the Axios Unaltered programming.
Please join me in praying for Jessica and Sammi as they step into these vital roles, continuing to support the vision and mission we share here at First Church.
In addition: I’m excited to share that Patricia Magyar has returned to lead the Congregational Care Team! Patricia will be serving 15 hours per week, making calls and visits on Tuesdays, meeting with the Congregational Care Team on Thursdays, and being present on Sunday mornings.
We are incredibly grateful to Deby Campbell for her leadership during Patricia’s absence. Deby will continue to serve the team in a volunteer role. A big thank you to Deby for her dedication, and a warm welcome back to Patricia!
Patricia’s email has been reactivated, and she can be reached at patricia@firstchurch.church.
See you in church,
Pastor David

A Requested Update on the Religious Trauma Symposium

We’ve gotten a request for an update on the religious trauma symposium from a few weeks back. It overall went well. We had about 25 people in attendance. We held the initial panel interview and then after that opened it up for a time of audience Q and A, which led to some really wonderful discussions. We had a number of people reach out to various panelists about resources to help them or people they know who are working to heal from religious trauma.
For those interested in the questions asked, here is a link to the script given to Jessica to read from for the panelist interview: https://firstchurch5510-my.sharepoint.com/personal/sammi_firstchurch_church/Documents/Religious%20Trauma%20Symposium%20Outline.pdf
The church looks forward to hosting other types of religious trauma related events in the future, as well as symposiums on other important topics that can help support people who are struggling and need our community’s support.
