We stream both services Sunday mornings live at 9 and 11 a.m. and both are available to watch later if you can’t watch live. We also have many previous services available to watch if you missed one. Pastor Mike’s Corner

I’m so happy to be a part of your community and serve as your pastor. I look forward to getting to know you and hearing about your hopes and dreams – your aspirations – for yourselves and this beautiful faith community.

This Sunday, I’d like to reflect on the aspirations of the founders who created and signed the Declaration of Independence 250 years ago. They, too, had big aspirations for their lives and their community, yet they fell short of their ideals. This week, we will reflect on the importance of having ideals to strive for, as well as on offering grace to ourselves and others when we don’t quite live up to them. Whether it’s the ideal of socioeconomic equality or perfectly loving all people, there are ideals that we innately know are good and appropriate to strive for, and we should continue to work on them even when we sometimes miss the mark.

I look forward to sharing some thoughts on this and hearing your perspective as well.

Seasons of Giving

During the summer months, our campus electricity costs average $7,500 per month to keep facilities air-conditioned and comfortable for all. As part of our Seasons of Giving campaign, we invite those who are able to make an additional gift of any amount to help offset these seasonal utility expenses. Your support helps us meet our budget needs while ensuring a welcoming environment for everyone. On behalf of the Heartfelt Giving Committee, thank you for helping us stay cool this summer!

Children’s Ministry Summer Updates

Kids, Jr. High, and Sr. High have moved to summer hours for June, July, and August. All-ages Sunday School will be meeting from 9:00 am – 10:00 am in room 221. Children and youth crafts and games will be available between services from 10:00 am – 11:00 am in room 222.
There will be no regular evening youth group meetings over the summer, but there are lots of fun activities and service events planned. Please contact julie@firstchurch.church with any questions or to be added to the invite list.

And finally save the date for Sunday, August 30, for our End of Summer/Back to Sunday School Kickoff Celebration to be held from 10:00 am – noon in the grassy courtyard area.

Kids Church, Youth Sunday School, and evening Youth Group will return to regular school-year hours.

Summer Choir

Love to sing? Love to make music with others? Love air conditioning? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions,
then you should join us for summer choir!
Beginning June 14, we will hold regular Sunday morning Summer Choir rehearsals from 10:10 to 10:45 AM in the Sanctuary. During this time, we will put together anthems that are simple and straightforward – easy enough to sing at the 11 AM worship service!
In addition to the Sunday morning rehearsals, we will come together for 3 special Wednesday night rehearsals. These rehearsals will take place at 7 PM on June 10, July 8, and August 5. These supplementary rehearsals will give us a chance to look at the pieces for the coming Sundays.
Even if you cannot make Wednesday night rehearsals, you are encouraged to participate in Summer Choir! Come sing with us!
For more information, please contact Joshua Elder at Joshua@firstchurch.church.

From your Lay Leadership Development Committee (Nominations)

Spiritual Gifts

Spiritual gifts are just that – gifts, given to Christian believers for the building up of the whole body of Christ. They are not given for personal gain, but for ministry in the world. Learning about the spiritual gifts we have, as well as helping our congregation learn about their gifts, can be useful when we pair it with opportunities to engage our community. Such gifts of God’s Spirit include wisdom, shepherding, exhortation, helping, discernment, faith, and compassion.

The following links are to learn more and to discover you own spiritual gift.

What’s next? After you discover your gift, pray to God to enhance and use your gift, call the pastor, tell a friend.
