Our goal here at the Weekday School is to provide an atmosphere in which the child may realize his or her full potential of critical and creative thinking by developing self-respect, self-reliance and self-discipline. While in the care of the Weekday School, the child will grow physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and spiritually, at his or her own speed and in his or her own pattern.

Our curriculum is an integrated, independent, and inter-related process. Each teacher has a system and procedure for teaching specific skills according to their assessment of each child. We are committed to enhancing your child’s self-esteem by helping your child to succeed.

We hope to be both a resource and a support system to parents. Parents are an important part of the Weekday School. An immunization record is required to be submitted prior to your child’s first day of school. A blue signature/immunization record card and a confidential information form will be made available to parents at the time of registration.

Preschool children are to be signed in and out on the computer for Extended Care and with full signatures on the clipboard list in the school office. Children attending only morning preschool classes are signed in/out with full signature in the classroom. Children attending the infants, ones and twos must be signed in/out on the computer and with a full signature in the classroom. Children must be escorted to their classroom or Extended Care. Children must be picked up on time or a late fee of $1.00 per minute is charged. Preschool classes start at 9 a.m. and end at 11:45 a.m. Extended Care is available from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from noon to 6 p.m. The Infant-Toddler center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for half days, and from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for full days.

Parents will be called immediately when a child has a fever or is vomiting. If a child has a fever, they stay out for 48 hours. For intestinal illness, they stay out for 24 hours. The director and assistant director give medications for life-threatening situations only, e.g. asthma breathing treatments. Many medicines may be prescribed in 12 hour dosages. Parents must call the school to report communicable diseases such as pink eye, chicken pox, diarrheal illness, Coxsackie’s virus, head lice, impetigo, pinworm, ringworm, roseola, and strep throat.

Children attending school have regular playground times during the morning and afternoon. parents are encouraged to apply sunscreen before bringing the child to school. Hats and sunglasses, labeled clearly with the child’s name may be brought to school with a backpack

The Weekday School discipline policy is designed to help children regain self-control through positive redirection. We try to keep the child’s self-esteem uppermost in our minds at all times. Children are accepted on a trial basis. If a child has excessive difficulty adjusting to the classroom environment, the teacher will request a special conference with the parents. A three week time period will be given after which we recommend another meeting with the director and at which time the parents may be referred for counseling. After another three week period, if the difficulties continue, the child will be referred to another preschool. We have a six week time limit for trial acceptance.

Special needs children are accepted on an individual basis in consultation with the teacher and the director.

If a child bites three times within one week, a conference will be set up with the parents to discuss the situation. If a child bites more than once in a day, the parents will be called to pick up the child immediately. Our first concern is the well-being and safety of each child that is placed in our care. The staff is aware of the problems which arise when children begin to bite and work with the parents and child. For these reasons each biting incident will be handled on an individual basis and all information shall remain confidential.

In between Parent-Teacher conferences, if you need to speak about concerns, problems, or ideas about the school, the Weekday School Board has established a procedure that we follow:

When children are involved, make an appointment to speak with the teacher at school or by prearranged telephone conference. If the teacher is not involved or the issue with the child cannot be resolved, make an appointment to speak with the Director. If the Director cannot resolve the matter, write a letter to the Weekday School Board to place the concern on the next scheduled Board meeting. At the meeting, the concern will be discussed and the Board will recess to discuss the resolution of the issue.

Preschool activities are often messy and fun. We encourage parents to dress children appropriately for these activities. Each child may bring a change of clothes in a zip-lock bag labeled with the child’s name to put in his/her cubby.
