S.W.A.G. Meets on Wednesdays
The Second Wednesday Adult Group meets on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in Asbury Hall. There is always a program followed by a catered lunch. This is perfect for those of you who can get away for lunch, those looking for something to do, and those who are retired. Hope you will join us. If you have any questions, please contact Robin Spencer.
Measuring a Life – Budget Planning 2018
The theme of our Extravagant Generosity Campaign for 2018 is “How Do We Measure a Life?” According to the Bible, the best measures of a life are: Who and What We Serve, Who and How We Love, and How and What We Give. During our worship in October we learned some strategies to grow in life’s most important areas and ways to measure that growth. We encourage you to take a moment and complete a pledge commitment to our operating budget for 2018. Simply click the link and complete your pledge commitment online. If you have a pledge card at home, you may drop it in the offering plate on Sunday morning or return it to the church office. Thank you!
Blood Drive Sunday, November 19
Please consider becoming a regular blood donor. As we learned from the Las Vegas tragedy, it was the pre-processed blood supply already in the hospital refrigerators that saved the injured. First Church will host the next blood drive at the United Blood Services mobile unit in the north parking lot on Sunday morning, November 19. You may schedule your appointment at the clipboard on Sundays on the brick patio or contact Robin Spencer at 602.263.5013, ext. 1107. Blood only has a 42-day shelf life so the need is constant.
Confirmation Parents Meeting Sunday, November 19
It’s Confirmation Time Once Again! Please mark your calendars and plan to attend The Confirmation Parent Information Meeting is Sunday, November 19 at 10:15 a.m. immediately following the 9 a.m. worship service. Please meet us in the Conference Room adjacent to the grassy courtyard. We will discuss the requirements for participating in the confirmation program and you will be given detailed information about the scheduled confirmation retreats.
Food Bag Ministry Donations Sunday, November 19
Our Thanksgiving services will take place on Sunday, November 19. This year we are encouraging everyone who comes to worship to bring a donation for our food bag ministry. There will be an opportunity during both services that morning for people to bring their donations to the Thanksgiving table. Donations for our food bag ministry can include pull-tab cans of Chef Boyardee, fruit cups, granola bars, Vienna sausages, peanut butter, saltines, dried pasta, and macaroni and cheese. If you have any questions, you can contact the church office at 602.263.5013.
Hike with Mike Saturday, November 25
Join Rev. Pearson for a post-Thanksgiving hike at North Mountain Park on Saturday, November 25. Plan on meeting at the church north parking lot at 8 a.m. We will get to the trail head at 8:15 a.m. Wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water. Call the church office to sign up.
Advent Volunteers Needed
It’s one of our favorite times of year here at First Church, Advent. The entire campus comes alive with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, and we are in need of volunteers to help make this Advent special. We are looking for people to help with Poinsettia set-up, Poinsettia watering, Taste of Christmas, and Advent decoration tear-down, and for our youth with free time on their hands over Christmas break, volunteering can count as community service. If you are interested and/or have questions, contact Stephanie Wallace.
